Because this page is not part of the user experience of this site, it is only available in English.

TO DO These are things I'm planning to introduce. If you have suggestions, please feel free to contact me! At this moment this web site is a dance partner search engine pure sang, so any additions must stay on topic. I do have some ideas for extra functionality:
  • Have one query per email address stored and automatically executed every day, week or month. Results are sent per email.
  • Add some new dance categories, like recreational dancing. But this kinda depends on what my users want.

The hosting service without further announcement moved the website to a Plesk8 setup, the application did not like that, thus resulting in a week's work to adapt to the new enviroment. The application is 6 years old, and things were different then. With many thanks to the hoster.
Oh, right, 943 and counting. 1000 seems to be a somewhat reluctant number, but maybe after the hollidays.

Just trying a new look, the old one is over a year old. This one is supposed to be a bit more coherent (less "colorful") and a bit simpler.

Mapblast has -again- changed their URL structure. This time it seems it is encrypted, so it means I cannot spoof the lon/lat anymore. The bitmap version is default again until I find something better.

Woohoo. 100 registrations!

I was not satified with the mapping solution, so I reexamined the mapblast website and found that I could extract lon/lat from a different location. So mapblast spoofing is added again as the default location determinator, because of its accuracy and globality. But Bitmap and Manual are still available as failovers in the header in case something goes wrong. I just need to change one file to switch the default. I hope this will not cause me any trouble anymore.

Because it is a lot of work to add new maps, I've added a manual entry of lon/lat values and references to site where these can be obtained.

After Excite ceased their maps service, I've switched to a system of maps I implement myself. I published a version limited to the Netherlands only, but worked in the meantime to enable globalilty again. Needless to say this took quite some study on projections of the globe on paper maps and refreshing of a serious amount of math about globes. But I currently think I understand what our cartographers are doing and have reenabled a global mapping system. :-) This system is severely less accurate that the ones based on Mapblast or Excite... You can't have it all at the same time. I hope people let me know when they are interested in a more detailled map to be added.

Excite has ceased their maps service. Since this is the second time this happens (see 2001-06-28), I've decided to no longer use an external mapping logic. I've introduced my own mapping system, which unfortunately can't do an address search anymore and the pinpoint is less accurate. And it's much more work to manage, since I need to have bitmaps in an appropriate scale for each and every country I want to support. So I've decided to start small (NL, BE, DE) and add maps as I go along. I hope people let me know when they are interested in a map to be added.

Improved German translation (hey don't blame the Dutch guy), thanks to Anja Udolph.

The height value can now be entered with a comma and a dot. Dutch users had a tendency to use the comma.

Damn! Mapblast removed the longitude and latitude values from their web pages. Why hasn't anyone told me? At least someone who tried to register could have been so friendly and inform webmaster@tbee.org that something was wrong? Luckily I found another website which does what Mapblast did: Excite. Ironically Excite uses Mapblast to draw the maps ;-) Let's hope Excite won't removed the lon/lats...

After only two weeks a few points became obvious in the reactions of the beta testers and the first users. (Many thanks to both!)
  • The initial user group was Dutch and they were very keen on having a Dutch translation. Added.
  • A lot of users experienced the mandatory registration as an obstacle. Introduced anonymous querying, but with restrictions.
  • My hosting service has problems providing my incidental users with a database connection. They state that other web sites (also hosted on the same system) allocate all available connections. Changed the database connect logic to try multiple times before failing. If this doesn't suffice I need to use a less friendly algorithm. (And in the meantime wait until I can host on my own ;-)

The initial release. It featured a mandatory registration, Mapblast spoof for location determination and was English only.
